Kashmiri Pandits Association offers Kharghar building to Maharashtra government during Covid-19 crisis | Navi Mumbai News

NAVI MUMBAI: The Kashmiri Pandits’ Association has offered its building in Kharghar for accommodating the government staff working on field, to mitigate the pressure on the state government administration in the war against Covid-19 pandemic.
The charitable trust of Kashmiri Pandits, has written to the chief minister of Maharashtra wherein they have offered to utilize Sharda Sadan building in Sector 8, Kharghar. The three-storeyed building has 15 furnished rooms with beds and bedding. The trust has offered to use it for healthcare workers in isolation or for on-duty police personnel or whichever capacity it can be used during the Covid-19 pandemic.
President of KPA, Dr Sanjay Dhar said, “It is a small contribution from our community to lend a helping hand to the government during the Covid-19 crisis.”
Member of KPA, Ashoke Pandit, a filmmaker said, “Apart from 15 rooms with bedding, the building even has a spacious hall which can also accommodate around 30 persons while maintaining social distancing. I have communicated with CM Uddhav Thackeray, ministers Aditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh and also with BMC commissioner to use our building in Kharghar during Covid-19 pandemic. Though, the building in located in Kharghar which is under Panvel civic body, the facility can be utilized even by BMC. It is for the government of Maharashtra to decide.”
Pandit further said, “The Kashmiri Pandits community is very much thankful to Late Balasaheb Thackeray and his entire family because when the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits took place, it was Late Balasaheb Thackeray who took care of the education of Kashmiri Pandits in Maharashtra. So, it is our duty to contribute during the present crisis of Covid-19 pandemic.”
PCMC commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh said, “We have not received any official letter from Chief Minister’s office regarding the Kashmiri Pandits’ Association offering their building in Kharghar for Covid-19 related measures. We have already made arrangements of quarantine centre and shelter homes and as of now they are sufficient. We appreciate the noble cause of the Kashmiri Pandits Association and shall definitely use their building in Kharghar if required for institutional quarantine centre.”
