NAVI MUMBAI: Two men were arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a businessman and his elderly father after their cars had a collision in Vashi. The accused – Koparkhairane resident Akshay Dhanawade (25), a gym trainer, and Ghansoli resident Suryakant Shedge (36) owner of a sports store – allegedly assaulted businessman Yuvraj Nadar (33) and his father Ganeshan (71) who are Chembur residents, according to the police complaint.
Around 4.30pm, the car of the accused grazed past Yuvraj’s SUV while overtaking from the left side. Yuvraj said that the accused sped away and he chased the car over 3km and caught up at the junction of Blue Diamond Hotel in Vashi.
When Yuvraj pointed out the damage to his SUV, Dhanawade got an iron rod from their car and assaulted Yuvraj on the limbs and head, injuring him. Shedge too rained blows on Yuvraj, says the complaint, adding that his father was also injured when he tried to rescue Yuvraj.
A crowd had gathered at the spot and the cops were informed. The Nadars were taken to hospital, and the son later lodged a complaint at Vashi police station. The accused have been booked under section 326 of the Indian Penal Code that deals with causing grievous hurt by use of dangerous weapons.
