NAVI MUMBAI: More than a fortnight after water sports activity on beaches in Raigad — Alibaug, Kashid, Nagaon, Varsoli – resumed after lockdown, it has been stopped by the state maritime board. Locals had complained to a state minister about the “reckless” manner in which sports were conducted, besides norms on social distancing flouted.
Also, vigil is now being maintained at beaches after a film shoot took place at Alibaug beach recently.
Port inspector of the Maritime Board, Atul Dhotre, said some people posted photos of water sports activities online. “Our authorities have ordered closure of water sports from December 2 and staff have been deployed at all beaches,” said Dhotre. All water sports – boating, all-terrain vehicle-riding – were allowed at Raigad beaches from November 20 with protocols.
