Mumbai local train update: Central Railway to increase suburban services from today

Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) will resume eight special local train services from Belapur and Nerul to Kharkopar station on its suburban route in neighbouring Navi Mumbai from Friday.

Four local train services will run between Belapur and Kharkopar while another four will run between Nerul and Kharkopar. With this, the number of suburban services on the Central Railway routes will increase to 1,580.

The Central Railway has advised passengers to adhere to all norms and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to coronavirus infection while travelling in trains.

Earlier the Central Railway had announced that the local train services from Nerul will depart for Kharkopar at 8.45 am and 5.45 pm, while the services from Belapur will start at 9.32 am and 6.32 pm.

The services from Kharkopar to Nerul will depart at 9.15 am and 6.15 pm, while those for Belapur will start at 10 am and 7 pm. “Except for categories as identified by the State Government of

Maharashtra and as approved by the Ministry of Railways, others are requested not to rush to the stations,” a release had said.

The Railways resumed local train services for persons employed in emergency and essential services on June 15 and it has been running over 1500 train from November 1 in a bid to reduce overcrowding amid Covid-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 situation in Mumbai

On Thursday, a total of 924 fresh positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in the financial capital of India, taking the total number of infected patients in the city to 2,72,449. The death toll due to the viral infection in Mumbai has risen to 10,624 after 12 more persons succumbed to the disease.

As many as 1,192 more patients were discharged from hospitals following recovery, the city civic body said. This was the highest daily count so far this week. The BMC said Mumbai’s average doubling rate of Covid- 19 cases is 310 days, while the average growth rate is at 0.22 per cent.

The civic body seals a building or declares a containment zone after one or more patients from there test positive for the infection.
