NAVI MUMBAI: Nine persons were injured in two separate accidents on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Pune-Mumbai highway on Saturday because of poor visibility.
Three passengers in a car were injured after it rammed into a truck ahead of it at the Bhor gate on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli.
In another accident, six persons in a mini bus were hurt after the bus going towards Alibaug lost control and toppled near Khopoli.
The injured persons have been admitted to the MGM hospital in Kamothe.
Senior inspector Dhanaji Kshirsagar said that the driver of the fourwheeler was unable to see the slow-moving truck ahead because of the thick fog.
“When the car came closer to the truck, the driver applied sudden brakes and attempted to veer towards the right. However, due to the momentum of the speeding car, he rammed into the rear of the truck at around 7.10am.”
He added that the car’s left side crashed into the truck as a result of which the driver and two passengers were not directly impacted and sustained minor injuries.
“The mishap disrupted traffic movement for some time,” he said.
Kshirsagar said in the other accident, the mini bus ferrying a group for picnic toppled owing to a brake failure after which the bus driver lost control of the vehicle as claimed by him.
“Only six passengers sustained minor injuries and they were treated at MGM hospital at Kamothe,”he said.
“The bus driver has claimed that the mishap occurred because of brake failure and he could not control the wheels and the bus toppled sideways,” he added.
